Research Associate, In Vivo Modeling

 

The Position

The Department of Oncology Biomarker Development (OBD) is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to contribute to Cancer Immunotherapy (CIT) drug development and reverse translation efforts. Specifically, this individual will utilize preclinical animal models to experimentally inform a deeper understanding of CIT resistant mechanisms. The successful candidate is expected to have a strong background in using rodent animal models. Specific responsibilities will include conducting in vivo and in vitro assays. In vivo work will include small animal handling techniques such as mouse tumor inoculation and measurement, oral, s.c. and i.v. dosing, blood and tissue collection. In vitro work includes a range of cellular assays and molecular biological techniques to help interpret in vivo observations. The candidate will be part of a multifunctional team, including discovery scientists, bioinformatics scientist and clinical researchers.

 

Responsibilities:
  • Provide support to scientists in the biomarker development to interrogate the mechanisms of action and identify potential biomarkers of therapeutic response.
  • Coordinate the execution of in vivo studies to demonstrate efficacy and mechanism of action or resistance of our existing and emerging therapeutics.
  • Specific responsibilities would focus on animal studies including monitoring, dosing, and animal necropsy and organ collection.
  • Hands on experience with small rodents and administration of drugs through various routes.
  • Use of cellular and molecular techniques to monitor changes in immune cell populations, including flow cytometry, tissue culture, and functional assays.
  • Duties may at times involve after hours and weekends.

 

Job Requirement:
  • Bachelor’ s or Master’ s degree with at least 2 years of relevant scientific experience either in an academic or industry setting.
  • Experience in handling/restraining mice with excellent in vivo dosing techniques, such as i.v. (including tail vein injections), i.p., s.c., i.n., p.o., and animal organ collection and dissection.
  • Proficiency with Graphpad Prism, Excel, Powerpoint and Word.
  • Excellent organizational and effective communication skills.
  • Flexibility, enthusiasm, and a genuine desire to learn.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in cross-functional teams involving multiple groups.
  • Attention to details and ability to translate excellent technical skills into high quality results.
