Job Description
Our client develops, manufactures and supplies a wide array of innovative medical diagnostic products, services, tests, platforms and technologies.
Position Summary:
The Sequencing Workflows and Applications team is seeking a scientist to contribute to the research and early development of new reagents, workflows and assay solutions in the field of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS). The qualified candidate will have experience in NGS workflow optimization with hands-on experience in nucleic acid extraction, library preparation, target enrichment, sequencing, and data analysis.
Essential Functions:
- The successful candidate should have a background in molecular biology and human disease related fields, with hands-on experience designing, optimizing and validating NGS base workflows.
- Accurately and consistently records experimental methods, materials and results in electronic laboratory notebooks.
- Analyzes data, evaluates results, forms conclusions, and determines future experiments.
- Uses broad knowledge of molecular biology technique to proactively troubleshoot assays, resolve technical issues and challenges, and perform data interpretation.
- Presents work including scientific background information and project updates at internal staff meetings and at cross-functional team meetings.
- Establishes and maintains productive relationships with personnel in Development; orients and trains new R&D personnel as needed.
- Writes and implements standard operating procedures (SOP).
Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements:Â
- Bachelors degree in Biological/Life Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field
- Preferred: More than 1 year of relevant industry
- Scientist I:Â 0 to 3 years of relevant industry experience
- Scientist II: 3 to 5 years of relevant industry experience
- Sr. Scientist: minimum BS degree with 6+ years or MS with 3+ years of relevant industry experience.
- Strong molecular biology background.
- Experience in assay design, optimization, validation, experimental design, data analysis, and presentation.
- Experience performing next-generation sequencing methods (Exome, whole genome, RNA sequencing).
- Excellent communication skills.
- Preferred experience with Next-generation sequencing using Illumina instruments such as NovaSeq, HiSeq, Nextseq, MiSeq
- Previous experience in analysis and interpretation of NGS data is a plus
- Previous experience with different genomics analysis technologies such as microarrays, real time PCR and ancillary equipment for quality control and validation is a plus.
- Understanding of oncology biology
