Job Description:

The ideal candidate will be proficient in the biosynthesis of natural compounds using molecular biology, metabolic pathway engineering, and modern bioinformatics approaches. Experience in high throughput cloning and screening strategies or application of various microbial strain improvement approaches and phenotypic selection is a plus. The candidate must be able to think independently and will successfully conceive, generate and characterize new microbial strains producing natural products for a broad range of applications. The candidate will be capable of working collaboratively with R&D teams and have excellent communications skills. This position comes with a competitive compensation and equity participation.

 

Responsibilities:
  • Harness metabolic pathways through synthetic biology and microbial strain engineering to optimize the biosynthesis of key natural products
  • Apply knowledge gleaned from genomic, transcriptomic, and bioinformatics data in the design and implementation of expression vectors to modify outputs in lead microbial strains
  • Design and execute high throughput screening experiments to generate new and unique strains with novel or improved phenotypes
  • Assist in writing and preparation of research plans for review by corporate partners
  • Train and mentor other scientists, hire staff to support group operation

 

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Ph.D. degree in Molecular biology, Biochemistry, or related discipline with 2- 7 years experience in the field of natural product biosynthesis using microbial or plant metabolic pathway engineering
  • Excellent working knowledge of molecular biological tools and techniques including construction of transformation vectors, application of real-time PCR, use of NGS applications, and bioinformatics tools used in bacteria and other organisms
  • Hands on experience in the assessment and application of genomic, transcriptomic and gene expression data
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong operational and organizational background
