Position description:

Seeking a Research Associate to join the Mass Spectrometry Metabolomics group. To succeed, you will need to be extremely detail oriented, and an enthusiastic team player. This is a hands-on bench position, focused on supporting core functions of the lab. You will run robots for sample preparation, operate mass spectrometers, and prepare and organize the lab buffer and chemical stock inventories. This is a collaborative position working with members across the Metabolomics group to apply mass spectrometry to answer fundamental questions about the biology of aging and disease.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare buffer solutions and chemical reference standards for multiple instruments and method types
  • Manage chemical inventories.
  • Help develop and maintain an organizational system for 1000+ chemical vials, and generate reference data for each standard.
  • Prepare biological samples both at the bench and using automated liquid handlers.
  • Operate a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer running targeted metabolomics and lipidomics assays.

Job Requirements

Position requirements:
  • BS degree in chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related field 1+ years of experience in a laboratory working with both chemical and biological (e.g., plasma, cells, or tissue) sample preparation.
  • Incredible attention to detail with a keen eye for spotting inconsistent or unexpected results during sample prep, along with excellent record keeping and organization.
  • Excellent wet lab skills, with a desire to continuously improve lab practices and protocols.
Other Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience operating chromatography or mass spectrometry instruments (e.g., HPLC, LCMS, GCMS).
  • Experience working with automated liquid handlers like the Hamilton Vantage.
  • Experience with lab organizational tasks, like consumable tracking and ordering, small equipment calibrations, or organization of large chemical inventories.
